Welcome to Irene and Edith…
I established Irene & Edith in 2014, the studio is named after my Grandmothers as a space to explore creativity. My passion for ceramics started while studying for a degree in Contemporary Applied Arts at Cumbria Institute of the Arts my attention transferred from textiles to the the pottery studio, loving the tactile nature of the clay. Pottery soon became my therapy, moving to London after University and developing a career as a Merchandiser working with luxury brands in Harvey Nichols, Harrods and at the Royal Academy of Arts. They were a hectic ten years enjoying London life, pottery was my escape to create, rest my mind and let my hands play and build.
My story…
Over ten years ago I was asked 'What do you really want to do?', my response 'to make pretty things'.
I tried to map out a life to combine creating with a full-time career. I battled with doubt and my capability to form a life I wished for, until I hit make or break time, so I took the leap into becoming a full time Ceramicist. In the past two years I have explored the Llyn Peninsula, developed and refined my skills and set up a beautiful little studio. Building ceramic forms by combining coiling, press moulding, casting and detailed relief decoration. I have had the wonderful opportunity to exhibit in Chester, London and Llandudno, I now feel ready to share my Pretty Creations with the wider world.
